The Green Team went to visit the REfUSE café in Chester-le-Street. They learnt all about how the organisation saves food which would otherwise be wasted, and turns it into delicious meals. After touring the warehouse, the children carried out activities linked to food storage, 'best before' dates and food waste. Before we left to catch the public bus back to school, we enjoyed a snack and drink while hearing about how customers to the café can 'pay as they feel' for the food they eat - a lifeline for some in the community who may be struggling to afford hot, nutritious meals. We are really looking forward to taking part in REfUSE's Eat Smart project after half term which aims to reduce the amount of food we waste across school.
